Client: Amazon.com Unbox Service: Application UI, IA & Visual design
Amazon Unbox, which is the first
client application from Amazon. Responsible
for the IA, UI & visual design of the application, as well as the design
of all the .com
page layouts & promotional graphics for the V1 release.
How the Unbox design came into being
For the first client application
at Amazon.com, we wanted to create a clean
look that had the "feel" of an Amazon product, but with it's own
unique edge.
I incorporated simple interactions
that allow users to see more details of a title.
You can view IMDb details, images, and product info for downloaded titles.
Another important aspect was the ability to watch videos in a variety of different sizes.
You can watch within the application
in the small player view in the upper left
corner. Selecting the Player tab along the top puts the video in Player
view...still
in the application. You also have the option of watching videos in full-monitor
view...outside of the application.
If you have a portable device,
you can see that within the application and download
videos right there.
Shopping for videos on the Amazon web site
A decision was made early-on
to keep the shopping experience for Unbox on the
main Amazon web site. Although much of the look of the shopping pages falls
inline
with existing Amazon pages, a numberof "special" cases had to
be designed.
A storefront landing page was
designed with it's own preview player and Featured
Previews section.
From a TV series page, you can
purchase individual episodes, or the entire season,
from one page.
